2001 NAMBA Fast Electric National Championships

NAMBA Alaska Nats Results

Results from Day 1

The 2001 nationals have begun! So far we've had bright sunny skies around 80 degrees and nice water conditions. This is always a great recipe for fast boats and close racing! So who had the hot hand today? Ask Randy Naylor! Or better yet, look at the results so far! Randy had a fast solid fleet of BBY boats and was very consistent.

One other real standout was by Alaska's own Larry Larson who recorded a 49.60 record in S Hydro. That's smoking! Larry was running his own Larson Rigger and driving lane one all the way around!

There are of course more highlights, but I've still got a few more boats to work on tonight  for tomorrows race so that maybe I'll be one of those highlights!

See ya,
Dick Crowe

Results from day 2

Day 2 was again spectacular in Alaska. Although a few first place finishes will make just about any place look good (at least for me).

One of the standouts was P Hydro. All of the heats were 5 boats strong and just about everyone was under a minute for 5 laps. It was really incredible. Don't think that because the record didn't fall that these weren't the fastest boats in the water. I had one heat at 55 seconds with a lot of traffic, and I wasn't the only one going that fast. My hat is off to Don Wollard for building me an incredible boat. While it would have been nice to beat Jeff Vasquez, Doug Twaits Jr and the current record holder Chris Fine, I still feel I raced the best and came out ahead today. If some of the other hot rods were here, I'd still like my chances!

Because of the great conditions, most of the races came down to the last heat, and some class wins were determined by time. Ask my son Colten who tied with Greg Schweers for first and lost to time! What a guy! Picking on a 4 year old like that!

As far as records go, I think I was told I set a record in P Offshore at 3:09 for 10 laps, although I have no idea of the current record. There were also several near records (within a fraction of a second)  in just about every class! It just goes to show it's getting tougher and tougher!

That's it, I've got to get more boats ready for tomorrow!

Results from Day 3

The 2001 NAMBA Nats has come to a close. I can honestly say that in my 14 years of boat racing this was the best nats I can remember. The Alaska crew pulled all the stops!

It didn't hurt that I tied for overall highpoints with Randy Naylor or set a few records along the way. I set 2 records with Rum Runner Riggers today. In Q Hydro I ran 54.31 with an Aveox 1412 1.5 and in O Hydro I ran 58.12 with a Hacker. To me running a sub one minute on 8 cells was like Larry Larsons sub 50 second record in S Hydro. There's no doubt that this nats had the fastest boats in the country. Anyone who would take issue with that can talk to Me or Larry!

The Team Championship went to Fullers Fast Electrics. The Fullers Team consisted of Larry Larson, Dick Crowe, Scott Bickford and Greg Schweers. This time the Fullers team left no doubt about winning, by doubling the points of the second place team.
