Electric Unlimiteds Northwest

Maus 12 Cell Bullet

crowebullet7sm.JPG (4279 bytes)

I've been asked lately what the setup is in my Maus Bullet, so here it goes. First of all I've got to give credit where credit is due. The basic setup are guidelines I got from Jeff Vasquez. It's his foundation that makes this boat pretty easy to setup. As a side note. All of the other Bullets I've seen that run good have similar setups.

Bits and Pieces

Hull: Maus 12 cell Bullet
Motor: Aveox 1412 1.5 "E" rotor
Radio: Hitec Lynx 3D FM
Speed Control: Aveox L160C
Servo: Hitec 945 MG
Prop: Octura M447
Shaft: Octura .130 flex
Motor Coupler: Octura Flex Hex
Hardware: Fuller's Fast Electric

The Basics

Because this is a very High performance boat I place a very high emphasis on quality hardware and fasteners. I've been using Fullers Fast Electrics hardware for several years and feel it's the best.

Beef it up

The Maus hull is very durable, however the transom needs some help as all of the important stuff is hanging back there. I have epoxied in a piece of 1/8th inch plywood to the transom that gives the screws something to bite into.

Put in the Parts

The placement of the Motor, Servo, Speed Control, Receiver and Batteries are a result of a combination of factors. Most importantly is Center of Gravity (CG). Ready to run the boat should balance out at 7 inches from the transom. The location of the electronics need to take into account the (CG) but also need to be carefully placed in order to keep radio interference to a minimum. See photo.

  • Motor to transom: 4 3/4 inches
  • Servo: Back right corner
  • Receiver: Back left corner
  • Speed Control: In front of motor and elevated 1 inch
  • Batteries: on each side of motor

Dialing it in

I've tried several different setups with the Bullet but have been the happiest with a neutral setup. First. The strut is parallel with the bottom of the boat and the bottom of the strut is 1/8th of an inch up from the keel. Trim tabs are flat and mounted about 1/8th inch up from the bottom of the hull. I do bend down the inside tab about 1 degree. Rudder is mounted about 1 3/4 inches to the right of the strut. Rudder length is 3 inches. Skid fin is mounted on the far right corner of the transom perpendicular to bottom of the hull. Skid fin length 2 1/2 inches long. The real trick I've found to this boat is setting up all of the hardware neutral and dialing in your ride with the center of gravity.

That's It!

This should get you close. Now go dial it in and watch it scream. It may be a little tricky at first. If you're like me you'll run it too loose until you decide it's time to start finishing heats! When you calm it down you'll notice you won't loose much speed and it will corner like it's on rails. If it gets real squirly in the corners either move your CG forward or put on a bigger skid fin. I like the big fin. It really helps to have a big fin in race water.
