New web site for Maus Motorsports

Maus Motorsports is back in full force with a new web site and all the trimmings. The new head of Maus, Paul Renna from California, has been in model boats and the model industry in genral for nearly 20 years. Pauls experiance should prove to be a real winning combination for one of the best line of Fast Electric model boats on the market. Many new plans lay ahead for Maus including a line of plastic hulls. Visit there web site and drop them a line. www.mausmotorsports.com

The Skimmers have decided to switch back to racing on the 1st and 3rd SUNDAYS of each month. We will no longer race on Saturdays as it was problematical for several of our members to get the race. More that a few of the guys work on Saturdays and it was a pain for the rest to get ready to race after work on Fri. Racing starts at 9 am every other Sun.The racing as usual has been top notch! As always even though we dont have many members we more than make up for it by the way we race. Apparently we are one of the smallest clubs if not the smallest. Fortunately we are among the fastest and most successful. The Spring Splash and time trials can attest to this.

The Puget Sound model boat club sponsored the Spring Splash and for the first time several of our members attended. This is a great event and as you can see by all the records that were set by our members and the other racers the racing was awesome. Firstly thanks to the Dick, Mark, Bill, etc for putting on the event. Our guys kicked some butt and set some records. Greg dominated the mono's with records in 3 classes. The 66 sec. in P mono is 6 seconds off the old record. His other records are equally strong. Richard Hernendez had strong runs and would have done a lot better in the final standings if it were not for some bad racing luck and broken parts. Richard clearly had  fast boats. I must say that Larry Larson took my P hydro record with a time of 61 seconds. Larry, I am glad you got it but I'm gonna get it back!

Several of us who didn't go to Seattle went to the straighline time trials at Legg lake. We broke every record that we tried for which resulted in 10 new NAMBA F.E records. Randy Tripp broke the O hydro and 1/16th records with the prototype Maus "Turbine". Randy raised both records to over 50 mph! Craig Hashey and Tony Eudave did the motor work and the boat was screaming. Mark Ferreira set a few records as well. He blasted the n-2 hydro record with his Cyclone. I, Jeff Vasquez set 4 records. The best was the P Mono in my estimation with a speed of 44 mph. There will be time trials again later in the year. Next time we should even do better as hopefully we will better know how to set our boats up. Take a look at our new records elsewhere on this page.

Our club has a good sized treasury and it was decided to look into getting either a timing system or a radar gun. We are pricing both and hopefully we should have one or the other very soon. It was also decided that we will put on a race at Legg Lake this year. We are hoping to have the race in late July or early August so we can use it for a test bed for the Nats. We will pull a sanction and invites all our friends from around the country. The course will be legal for setting records! That is it for now. I want to thank Dick Crowe for maintaining our page even when we dropped the ball. See you SUNDAY, June 6th at Cerritos rec. Park!

Results are in from The DPI Spring Splash

Day One

We had a beautiful day in Federal Way Washington to open the first day of the DPI Spring Splash. Racers from California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Canada weren't disappointed. Bob Cozart from WA mixed consistency with good driving to pick up a win in Crackerbox. Greg Schweers proved he was still the man to reckon with in N-1 mono class with a perfect day and a record to boot.  Ray Fuller from WA took the win in N-1 Hydro with a fast stepped mono! Consistency played a big part here when Jay Turner from AK with the fastest boat in the class was unable to finish all of his heats. In 1/16th Scale Dick Crowe from WA picked up a win in the final and set a new record in the class. In P Sport Scale Dick Crowe picked up his second win and set another oval record to go with it. Larry Larsen From AK Showed some real horsepower and skillful driving to pick up an easy win in OPC Tunnel.

Day Two

80 Degrees, blue sky and bearly a breeze proved to be a perfect combination for racing and setting records on day two of the Spring Splash.

In N-2 Mono Dick Crowe traded wins with Larry Larsen in the first two heats. They both won their third heats which meant the title would belong to the driver with the fastest time. Dick's Maus Micro Bullet was on top this time with a time of 1:20.84, just 2 seconds faster than Larry. A side note here, both Larry and Dick's time were faster than the current record. In N-2 Hydro Larry Larsen went on to redeem himself and cruised to victory with his Cyclone Rigger. O Mono was another battle of fastest times between Dick Crowe and Greg Schweers with their Micro Bullets. Both Greg and Dick never faced each other and had 3 perfect heats. In the end it was Greg's time of 1:14.36 edging Dick out by less than a second which gave him first place. Both times were faster than the current record. In O Hydro, again fastest time proved the deciding factor for victory. Kevin Parsons and Dick Crowe had 3 perfect heats with Dick's time of 1:13.55 giving him the class victory. In P Mono Greg Schweers let it be known that he was the man to beat. Greg's Maus Bullet was the fastest 12 cell   mono I had ever seen and proved it with a perfect day and a blistering record time of 1:07.18. In P Hydro Larry Larsen was untouchable, setting fastest time of the event and a new record time of 1:01.14 with his TJ's Rigger. Newcomers Rick Ramus and Scott Bickford came in 2nd and 3rd respectfully with there Bandit shovels. In Anything Goes It was Dick Crowe's Micro Bullet with 3 perfect heats and a win over Tony Treichel's T-Plus and Robby Oesch's DPI American Dream. When all the racing was over the score keepers added all the points which gave Dick Crowe the overall high point championship. Second was Larry Larsen who was strong all weekend.

We've just completed of 4th race day of the season and it was a blast. We had 12 racers and over 20 boats including 2 heats of N-2 mono and O hydro. O Mono had some great races between Greg, Mark and Jeff M. The start is really important, while Greg's boat has a slight speed advantage any one of these guys can win at any time. P hydro was between yours truly, Jeff V. , Greg, and Mark. I Blew my boat off the water 3 times for a whopping 75 points. I think Greg won the class today. The interesting thing in this class is Mark's new Bandit 1/12th hydro. It looks to be really competitive and very stable - more so in fact than the Maus's due to its smaller size. I think the Maus's still have the speed advantage - I hope!!! By the way the "Can Heads" lead by Craig are running G force motors on 10 cells and look to be very fast with Maus's little shovelnose. The next race should be interesting! O hydro was a blast with the big surprise being Randy's G Force powered shovelnose. That boat was world class fast!!!! He was running a little loose but if he just tightens it up a little it will be very hard to beat at least speed wise - very impressive. The first 2 rounds were split heats but for the last round we ran 6 boats. The first lap was beautiful as all the boats were side by side on the line and made it through the first turn. Attrition let me win that heat. It was a blast! N-2 mono was a Greg show. Everybody else was chasing him and the class was his to loose. I don't know who won today but if someone else won, it was because Greg lost. Mark, Jeff M. and Richard are all close but Greg is tough to beat.

Misc. F.E. Stuff - Spring Splash in Seattle May 21 and 22. Jeff, Greg, Mark and Phyllis, Jeff M. and Lynn, etc. are all planning on going. It is a lot of fun with no pressure. Go if you can. You can contact Bill Blackwell of the hosting club PSFEMBC at: billbwell@aol.com.

Maus is TEMPORARILY out of production. Bandit is coming out with some new boats for F.E.'s to go with the Pistolero mono and new Shovelnose. Jeff Michauds better half, Lynn has been helping us with the races and plans on racing in the near future. Welcome to the club Lynn. I know I am forgetting a bunch of other stuff but I will be adding new info as I remember it in the coming days.

That's all for now. Jeff

The skimmers have just come off a really busy and exciting year. Along with our regular busy schedule of racing twice a month we sponsored the 98 NAMBA Fast Electric Nationals. The race was great and we were able to raise $1500.00 for a great charity, The Special Children's League. 1998 saw various Skimmers club members set many NAMBA records and win many National championships as well as having the 98 NAMBA High Point Champion who is Mark Ferreira. Additionally our club members have attended races in Chicago and Florida.

On to 99. Firstly we have some sad news to report. We lost our first member from a heart attack. Luke Anthony passed away last year. To say he was enthusiastic was an understatement. From day one he had all the best equipment and a lot of it. Luke was a great guy and will be missed. Russ Kafel who is a founding member of our club is moving to northern California. Russ has been active in all facets of our club and was the point man for us at the 98 Nats. Russ has been our club treasurer for the last couple of years and has raced in every class that we have run which is a lot. To say that Russ will be missed is a huge understatement. He has been a good friend to all of us and a real asset to our club. The good thing is that now that we have this WEB page Russ will be able to keep tabs on us from time to time.

Our club resumes or twice monthly schedule of racing on Sat. Feb. 6th. We are racing on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays now which is a change from Sundays. We are thinking of starting up a P mono class (12 cells) that only utilizes Astroflight motors. You could use any Astro motor including the 3T 40 Marine racing motor or the 4T or 5T 25 Marine racing motors. It is looking like several of our members will be going to Seattle for the "Spring Splash" and to Orlando for the 99 Nationals! That's it for now, see you at the races!

The Skimmers have added an exclusive model boats Chat Room to the site. The Electric Unlimiteds Northwest web site is also tuned into it. As time goes on maybe more clubs will want to join in.

You will need a Java enabled browser like Internet Explorer 3.0 or better or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or better to use it. AOL 4.0 isn't good enough. Download a free copy of Internet Explorer 4.0 form our homepage. You may want to do it before you go to bed at night. It could take quite a while to download.

12/30/98

The Skimmers wish you a happy holiday season.

We have added to a few sections in the site. For our current 1999 schedule, check out the "Schedule" section". For a list of 1998 club champions, check out the "Standings" section.
